I generally do teas or alcohols, but since im out of the later I might offer some chamomile since its my favorite. Ive never heard of offering white granite though, is there a particular reason? Cannot for the life of me remember where I heard it, but it's for similar reasons that reeds were a common offering--they're easy to find and free, so even people without means could pay rent. (I also have vague half-memories about associations with granite/quartz and the fair folk but idk I could be making that up.) I didn't end up doing it though, I had a surprise trip to a ren faire and made a spontaneous offering of magic wishing yarn instead. (It makes sense in context.)

There's a bit of local lore&traditions around here too about him. Some of them were mentioned earlier this year when his statue in Limavady was stolen...
Outside of that time, Midsummer offerings, and whenever I'm by the sea, I don't honour him as frequently, so I'm sure we'll get closer in good time!

my rent was several days late, but i managed to do it! it's kind of strange cuz i feel like since i've moved literally right next to the coast, i've been more distant from him than usual? possibly cuz i've been so focused on health things and thus my attention has been more on other deities, so getting rent paid (which was a bit of a chore cuz ummm finding green anything in CA on midsummer is pretty difficult...) was a pretty big deal for me. i think i'm gonna try setting out some tea to have with him again this week sometime and see how that goes! i really like that car altar idea btw, i might see if i can manage a little something to keep in my bag that always goes with me when i take public transit lately. i could really do with a bit of manannán charm to help with that anxiety

So I'm guessing that since people keep talking about the shrine in their car idea that Manannan is also associated with travel, yea? Does he have other associations? All I ever knew about him was that he was associated with the sea and since the sea and I are not on speaking terms I haven't researched Manannan at all.

He has associations with mist and the Otherworld in lore. I think travel is a shared upg born out of that, along with the fact that travel via ship would obviously be his thing. He also has some association with death, herons, and whiskey/beer. cass I made a travel shrine to to Manannan in a mini altoid tin. It lives in my bag and goes everywhere with me and is like a tiny best friend, I highly recommend it.

Totally forgot to talk about my Midsummer experiences! I went to the Trinity (which empties into the Gulf) to pay rent. Since West Fork was flooded I went to Clear Fork instead. Found a place that seemed like a huge but pretty storm drain under the trail, that waterfalled into the river itself. I found a few tiny yellow flowers and a bunch of reeds growing on the bank, cut three of them and had my offering. Looking back I should have just put it in the stream instead of just... throwing it into the river, because it got stuck between the current of two waterfalls... It stayed together though! The small wet flowers acted like glue or something. When I got back on the trail I looked out and saw that the offering was starting to slowly float along. I prayed for everyone in and on the Gulf to be safe during the hurricane season and that everyone would get a good "crop" from the ocean this year, then thanked him for being around in his own weird way. Got a lot of fitting songs on the car radio that day... Does anyone else experience this? I had some more experiences with the river itself but I'll save that for the river veneration thread

i'd love to see a picture of you mini shrine if you'd be willing to share! i'm never really sure what i'd put in something like that No problem! Opened up, it looks like this: Unpacked, we have three buttons, a NH state quarter, a piece of sea glass, a picture of the ocean, and some soft felt lining: Sea glass for obvious reasons, buttons bc I had a bunch of them and around the time I made it I had heard what I think is a Scottish custom of leaving buttons as an offering which of course I can't find anymore.(This is why we take notes self!) The quarter I found and put it in bc why not. There is also a little folded up Manx prayer that I found: ''Manannan beg mac y Leirr, fer vannee yn Ellan Bannee shin as nyn maatey, mie goll magh As cheet stiagh ny share lesh bio as marroo ‘sy vaatey’. " "Little Manannan, son of Lieirr, who blessed our land, Bless us and our boat, well going out And better coming in with living and dead in the boat.'' ( Found here) It is also in a mini altoid tin so this is the tiniest baby travel altar

I really love these mini-shrine things and I want to make one. Argh. ARGH. I should make one. It would just require me buying a thing of altoids or something similar too...

omgggggg it's so itty bitty!!!!!!! i'm absolutely in love <3
it's also really making me wish i still had access to the massive jar of buttons my mom used to have. i used to look through it a lot and i know of some that would be absolutely perfect for a mini manannán shrine *whistful sigh*

Thanks! I see the tiny tins sporadically at pharmacies and grocery stores up at checkout, so it's worth keeping an eye out for them. The bigger tins are easier to find and can hold more stuff, but are less adorable. XD Mine's an older one, they're a little more rounded now.
And man that stinks. It seems like you either have a giant jar of buttons somewhere or you don't have any.
