Sorry to come late to the party! The topic just caught my eye. Personally, I don't think the land is picky about what deities you worship on it. The best advice I can give for establishing a connection is really just get out there! Sit anywhere green for as long as you can, and if there's a place that allows for it, do some meditating there. If you have to go places within the city, try to take a route that incorporates the most green space, even if it may take a little longer. It's not so much that you find a place that likes you automatically, at least in my mind, it's more about how much time you're willing to spend. I view connecting to the land, or any relationship, like a tree: it's not going to grow big and glorious a month after you plant it, it will grow gradually if you give it the right amount of attention. I used to think I lived in the most un-remarkable city possible as a kid, having seen the mountain parks and then coming back to my own city. But I grew up, spent time outside, and came to truly appreciate just how glorious this place is! It's not about towering peaks or kilometers of undisturbed forest, it's about that one tree that makes you smile a little as you pass by it. I had the privilege of working an outdoors job for the past 2 summers, and so I got to know the wind patterns, what the sky looks like before rain, and when it's going to be cool or hot. I biked to work every day, along the river and the copses of trees surrounding it, and was blessed with a really intense vision of the Spirit of my local river that basically bound me to it. It wasn't even an experience I sought out, it was one of those truly rare moments of intense connection that comes unbidden. I am eternally grateful for it! I may not live on the land where my ancestors are buried, but this is home. It's the land that raised me. All I had to do was let it be enough for me ...then again, I have lived in the same house for 20 out of the 21 years of my life...so perhaps I have an unfair advantage. There's my two cents!

I may start trying to incorporate going out into a park or something as a weekly or monthly thing. I'm starting to feel less agoraphobic, so the advice "Just go out into the land to get acquainted" is finally doable.
I'm still just trying to wrap my head around honoring something that doesn't have clear boundaries, if that makes sense. Like a river has a river bank to mark its boundary, but what is a plain's boundary? What's a meadow's boundary? I'm not sure. I think this is why I may take up Scrivener's advice to visit those parks, because I can comprehend a forest better than I can comprehend a vast plain.

My great-aunt Muriel apparently once said to my Dad; "Brian, we may not be near the sea, but we have waves of wheat." Perhaps prairies and meadows are just oceans without water.

Allec something I always like to do when I am in town is go to the Gene Lahey mall downtown. It is fairly busy at times but if you have the opportunity to go during the weekday it can be very pleasant. It is a more open area, though. I just like to go and walk around and it provides me some thinking time.

I at first thought you meant a literal shopping mall but totally forgot that the water way (or mall??) is called a "mall" too lol. I really like that area of downtown too! There's a library right across the street if I remember correctly...
Basically, I need to get out of my apartment more often >> Hopefully I can find some place now that the weather is nicer.

You probably will be able to! I'm more likely to go out when other people are involved
