Oh dear. I wasn't aware of this either! I'll say a quick prayer, but me and those gods don't get along well.

You can certainly call upon Gods you are more comfortable with. I may as well, though I do have a soft spot for Asherah! I am going to be busy on that day during the bisexual conference I am helping plan, which is definitely another thing that stands against D@esh. I think I might specifically call on gods associated with liminality, that kinda goes with bisexuality pretty well.

That's very interesting. I actually have a personal taboo against acts of worship of Canaanite deities (it's a long story!) and I tend not to honour their neighbours either for related reasons. But I like Caelesti's idea of honouring deities of liminality. I'd particularly like to pray for the people suffering as a result of ISIL's campaign of terror. I'll light a candle today.

Well, there's also Sumerian, Babylonian, and Assyrian gods as well. The liminality thing was because I'm going to a conference on bisexuality (including lots of trans content) Gods/spirits who don't fit into one category & confuse people...go well with humans that don't fit into one category and confuse people! I can make another thread on that. My nonlinear thinking process also confuses people! In regards to ISIL/Daesh, I'd suggest calling on gods of protection, guardianship. I personally would rather various countries avoid war, so I probably would call on gods of peace & reconciliation or "war...if it's really necessary for defense" style gods rather than aggressive war gods. But that's probably more of a modern distinction than an ancient one. I've heard people contrast Athena & Ares in those terms but I get the impression that's a more modern interpretation. I shall ask the Hellenic folks about that. Is there a patron god of isolationism?

Sorry if it's inappropriate. I don't really work with warrior deities, with one exception who doesn't necessarily fit here... And my taboos are really around the whole of that region.
