I'm so happy that I could share this joy with you all. Oooh. Manannán. I am very, very fond of Manannán mac Lir. And just the ocean in general. Though I've only ever known the happier beaches of California. The ocean gets grumpy here on occasion, but it's nothing compared to the apparent piss and vinegar that the East Coasters go through. I really miss living near the ocean. And surfing. I miss that a lot too. I just have a lot of feelings about the ocean. Me tooooo. I'm just far enough inland that going to the beach is an all-day trip and I unfortunately haven't been able to go in a while. I like going in winter best though, because around here it's the only time you get the beach to yourself. XD I've never tried surfing. I'd like to, but my balance is pretty bad and I feel like I would not be very good at it.

Yeah. I've been a few times since moving out to the inland empire, but trips to the ocean are things that are now just. All day affairs if they happen. I had one a few months back though that was really lovely.
And yeah balance is a thing with surfing. I would say give it a shot if you can though because there's really nothing else that feels like it. Some people like snowboarding more or skating, but they don't have the particular thing that makes the ocean so lovely. There's this sort of weird energy to it. I think part of it is that you don't really call the shots with surfing. You get a wave and you work with that wave. It may or may not eat you alive, but for a brief moment you're very much in control while also not being in control. It's just really great and the few times I've been and what little I learned stick out very well in my head.
God the sound too. The sound is lovely too. And the smell. Everything just ends up smelling of sea salt and surf wax and sand.

Oh, that sounds super cool. The being in control while not being in control reminds me of horseback riding.
Also you are making me miss the beach SO MUCH

It is very cool! I've never been horseback riding. Though I want to try at it.
And I am so sorry. I just. The ocean is so cool though and it's hard not to talk about how great it is.

I've been riding since I was eight so it's really the only comparison I have haha.
No I feel you. I just. Want to go now and there is a Nor'easter coming so that is highly ill advised. XD

I have to say that I'm most at home, ocean-wise, in the the Northern Gulf (of Mexico). The white beaches and azure water just speak to me more than anything I've experienced anywhere along the Atlantic or Pacific that I've been.

LittleManannán!!! We've been mutuals for a while, then! Love the eShrine! HI!! Allec people keep suggesting that I move to the Dakotas because they apparently have a lot of job opportunities? But nope
If the ocean is too far away to make a day trip I'm not going. Rye beach is my favorite because it's a rocky beach, and there is no better way to spend a day than climbing around in tide pools.

I love that I just moved onto Lake Ontario, because the water is cold as ice even during the middle of summer, which means the beaches I frequent don't usually have a lot of swimmers. And, there are always two sets of sandbars, making it so I can stand with my head over the water about a mile from shore, and they don't break until the curves of the shore become sharp.
I wish the ocean were closer, but someday in the next few years I'll be stuck on a ship somewhere, or at a port, and the ocean will be everywhere. I cannot wait.

Graaahhhh, I don't like this whole quoting business on this forum, it's all very difficult to edit things out.
I am on the American side of the Lake, which is still better than the American side of the Falls at least.
