Hi everyone! I got here from looking at the Polytheist Community Center site, I hope that's okay.
You can call me Calluna, Caly, or Heather, I answer to all three, so whatever you feel most comfortable using.
Let's see, about my beliefs. Well, I was raised as a witch, in a big multi-generational family with multiple beliefs. My mum was agnostic Romani and my Da was Christian, but their was a lot of pagan things that bled over, probably due to the witchcraft thing and the unwavering belief in the Fair Folk. I went through a very Christian phase in middle school (due to attending a Baptist school) and read the Bible too much and left it because it didn't seem to make sense anymore. After high school and a year of college I explored Judaism and was thisclose to converting, when...something happened. My Da calls it a Near-Death Experience, my Gran is convinced I was visiting Mag Mell, I don't know what happened really.
Either way, I had a heart attack, and while I was unconscious, Scáthach smacked me upside the head with a sword and asked me what I was doing, chasing after gods who didn't care about me. I don't remember much else, other than her name, and when I woke up and told my aunt about my "weird dream" she drove home and came back, handing me a copy of The Táin. After that, I kind of fell into polytheism headfirst, and seven years later, here I am.
I worship Scáthach, Manannán mac Lir, Bhéara, and sometimes when they call, Na Morrígna. I suppose ancestor veneration goes here too, even though that was always a thing, growing up in my family.
So yeah, that's me. I'm also over on tumblr as calyhex. And I'll go back to lurking now.

It often makes me wonder what She wants with little disabled me. I don't mind sharing, but I honestly don't remember too much of it. It's more the feelings of it and little vivid clips of memory. Thanks for the welcome!

So happy to have you here! I never heard of anyone worshipping Scáthach, but she certainly deserves it She's one of my heroes. And there is a lot of talk about how having a disability makes people a fighter...since every day, you have to fight. I think that's what Lugh sees in me

I've had an ask or two on my tumblr telling me I'm an idiot, because she was a human, etc. I could go on a huge diatribe, about how I feel she's a goddess who got demoted, but I shall refrain, haha. She's definitely one of my heroes too, and not just because she bops me when I need it. Yeah, maybe that's it. Gods know I never stop fighting myself.

What are those people talking about, she's a ruler in an otherworldly location, that pretty clearly implies that she's not "just a human" (as if hero cultus isn't a thing anyway...). I mean, if they wanna take it up with the Chair of Celtic Studies at my university and his PhD from the University of Wales, that's their prerogative, I guess, but he was pretty clear on Scáthach being otherworldly...

You have NO idea how much better that makes me feel. I've always been convinced of it and everyone else has always been "she was just a warrior." And then I have to roll my eyes and be all "And a normal human warrior just happened to have a magic spear of mortal pain, created from the bones of a sea monster just LYING AROUND for funsies."
