No really, I running into this "he's just like Thor" meme and he's really not.
Anyway! A friend asked me the other day if I had any experiences or good references for Perkunas. I was able to pull references out of Of Gods and Men and Of Gods and Holidays (two completely unrelated books with hilariously similar naming conventions) but I have little direct experience to draw on, or good references that are available online. Recommendations? Stories?

Recommendations? Stories? I don't really have anything off hand, but I do know that his relationship with his serpent is far more cordial than Thor's is. There's a sense of understanding that they need each other for balance and that they interact together to form the thunderstorms. The rain the storms makes feeds the rivers that is Veles/Velnias's domain. Also that he's strongest in whatever thunderstorm season is for the area that the person is in. For me, that would be summer, but in some places like the mid-west, I understand it starts more in spring.

The Romuva website has an intro to basic mythology (including Perkunas), www.romuva.lt/new/?page=enOn that same page is also a link to a free download of the book "Baltic Religion Today" in PDF format. If one is more interested in Slavic mythology, perun.ca/ contains historical and mythology on Perun.
