This post will try to keep updated on resources for "recovering monotheists." This resource list can also be found at Polytheist Community Center website under 'Recovering Monotheists.'
Recovering Monotheists
Most of the world is dominated by at least one form of monotheism. So when a person decides to shed that life and become a polytheist, there are a lot of hangups left from that upbringing in a monotheistic household–even if one wasn’t even raised strictly as a certain monotheistic religion. These beliefs range from prayer habits to approaches to the gods themselves. And while these methods are normal in a monotheistic culture, they are foreign in that of polytheistic ones. Luckily, there is scholarship out there that describes polytheistic cultures of the Celts, the Egyptians, the Romans. Using those sources–for which ever one is most appropriate–can help guide the modern polytheist.
Recovering Monotheists: A Guide (on going)
- Signs YOU are a recovering monotheist
- The Major Difference Between Monotheism and Polytheism
- Not All Powerful, Not All Knowing, Not All Good
This is a series by me to explore the difference in the mindsets of Polytheism and Monotheism. It will (hopefully) be updated every Sunday.
Articles about Polytheism vs. Monotheism:
- “Living in a world without sin” by Sionnach Gorm. Addressing the concept of “Sin” and how it contrasts with Gaelic Polytheism.
- “things monotheism taught me” by Sian. They present a great list of things that are present in the monotheistic perspective, but absent in a polytheistic one.
