Does anyone have any good sources on animals in Gaelic lore and folklore? I keep coming across the usual uncited blogs and websites, but can't find anything with actual sources. The uncited websites seem to confirm UPG I have, but I don't want to put any kind of weight on said UPG, until I can have something more scholarly to verify it.

As soon as I get one of my books back from my friend, I'll look up the resources list, for that one has a lot of info on animals in Celtic nations. All I know is that salmon are important.

Thanks! I'm looking in particular about foxes, but any and all animal info would be great! Especially salmon as well with the Salmon Leap being a thing.

Most of my animal-related knowledge is with BIRDS because they are considered OTHERWORLDLY CREATURES and the otherworld is my JAM. I have no idea why I'm typing like this, don't mind me. Foxes, I've not come across anything really specific... for cows I would recommend you look into Brigid's associations (and also St. Brigit), and for salmon the big story I know is Fionn.

Oh! There's also a section in James MacKillop's Myths and Legends of the Celts entitled "Birds, Animals, Fish" that has some folklore behind various animals. I have an electronic copy. If I can figure out how to share it, would you be interested?
