Wordpress. Tumblr. Facebook Group.
What is the KDWA?
The KDWA (Korean Diaspora Worshipers Association) is based off of the Korea Worshipers Association which is the group that is home to 1,000+ 만신 (korean shamans/sorcerers) in Korea. The KDWA’s purpose is to provide a group community for Korean diaspora (laypeople and 만신 alike) to worship 신 together.
How do I join?
As of the moment, I (Mivi) am in the middle of creating numerous group pages for us to gather. Eventually I aim for us to have one main forum to go to, but as of the moment, I will be creating a tumblr page for you to follow and wordpress.
*NEW*: PLEASE MESSAGE ME if you want me to invite you to the facebook group!! It is secret, so no one else will be able to see your activity with the group, not even when you join it. Nothing from the group will show up in your News Feed or timeline, etc. People will not even be able to see the group on your groups listing.
It will also help diaspora 만신 maintain their businesses with the laypeople and coordinate online 굿.
Do I need to be a 만신 to join?
No. You don’t need to be currently a 만신, you don’t need to be undergoing spirit sickness, you can simply be a layperson. The only requirement is that you are Korean diaspora.
What is the main purpose of gathering 만신 and laypeople together?
Us Korean diaspora are utterly disconnected, especially when it comes to worshiping 신 in a community fashion. I want to bring us all together so we can worship together. 만신 will lead rituals, 굿 and prayer services. Laypeople will be able to have direct access to maintained 신 shrines by our 만신 that they cannot upkeep themselves, be able to come to online 굿, and participate in communal sorcery.
When you say ‘worship’, who are the KDWA worshiping?
We are worshiping 신. This goes for any number of indigenous Korean deities (like 산신, 단군), adopted Bodhisattvas (관음, 칠성) and our house gods (가신). If you happen to worship other pantheon deities, that’s okay but KDWA’s main focus are on Korean deities.
*I will add whatever questions I get to this post.
