I pulled some cards from my tarot deck today and I asked 3 (I thought) simple questions. For the first card I asked "Is there a deity trying to contact me?" The card I pulled was the 5 of wands signifying frustration and struggle. Second i asked "What do I need to do?" I pulled Page of pentacles signifying I needed to be willing to do hard work. Third I asked "What's the first step I should take?" I pulled Ace of swords signifying I needed to make a big change.
Every time I ask similar questions, I get a similar answer. "You're not ready yet you need to do more work."
In the interest of clarity, I pulled a card asking "what kind of change should I make?" I pulled Nine of swords. I just got the tarot equivalent of "Stop being anxious."
I can't tell if my deck doesn't like me, or if I'm really getting sincere answers. Or both.
P.S. please move this if it's in the wrong place

It could be both. In my experience, tarot and cartomancy in general are definitely methods of self-reflection, which can show some less-desirable aspects of ourselves. With that said, you may want to ask the deck HOW to go about implementing those changes.
What deck are you using, if I may ask?

It's basically a Rider-Waite deck but the art is prettier, and the cards are smaller than standard cards. And now that you mentioned it, I thought the deity was frustrated with me, but maybe I'm the frustrated person the card is referring to.

It definitely could be referring to yourself. I know when I first got in to gaelpol, I was so worried about doing the wrong thing and making the wrong move. Do you meditate at all? I usually try to do some deep thinking or lucid dreaming when I am trying to connect with a deity and am having issues or concerns.

Scrivener I don't. It's not that I have trouble with it physically, but that I don't have a stable life at the moment. Moving into an 18 wheeler was kind of a 2 steps forward one step back moment in my religious life. I definitely am in a place where I am nearly afraid to do anything without triple checking that it's right. Some of that is not wanting to offend, and some of it is having been a monotheist for so long that I have a hard time doing things on my own. I keep thinking that if I could focus on one deity at a time that I can do better, but then my cards refuse to be helpful lol

I really struggled with letting go and and being able to stop overthinking my practice. I finally reached the point where I was like, "Okay. If I gotta throw myself in to this, I'll do it. Be gentle with yourself. You will make mistakes, and you will hit points where you're not sure what to do. Kind of like now with your cards. But it is okay to be wrong, because that is an opportunity for learning.
