I'm drawn to/practice a variation on Irish/Gaelic Polytheism.
I'm a medievalist by academic training, which was totally useless in terms of finding a job, but very useful in terms of learning dead languages and good academic practices. There's... hella limited information on actual practices of the Insular Celts. And I'm fairly distrustful of many of the standing histories that we do have. I had an academic incident over Gerald of Wales that I still stand by, both academically and spiritually. The insular Celts, in particular, were resistant to writing their knowledge until conversion, which obviously poses an issue.
I know in other traditions, this space is often filled by UPG. I am more familiar with Heathen/Asatru traditions, because I have many close friends who are in those faiths, and they both have more traditional lore and more UPG writing (that I am familiar with).
I'm not sure how to find the middle ground between the two, especially where Celtic/Gaelic faith is often interspersed with what I view as colonization, such as the 18th century Druid-movement.

I personally view lore as a starting point.
For example, this is what the myths tell me of Lugh. This is how Lugh behaved, this is how Lugh introduced Himself at Tara, etc. But when I pour Lugh an offering and talk with Him, I am interacting with Him as He is now. Which may be different from the Lugh of lore, just like how I'm different from the person I was 5 years ago. Being who I am now doesn't negate who I was 5 years ago, nor does how Lugh is now negate who He was five centuries ago. If that makes sense?
Then again, this ties into my belief that nothing is static. Things and entities are constantly changing.
Hm. I don't know if that answered your question? :/
