Iechyd da!
Hello, my name is De or awenyddogamulos. “Awenydd o Gamulos” is a Welsh phrase that means “inspired/blessed (one) of Camulos”, and is pronounced “a-WHEN-eeth oh gam-YOU-luss” (you can hear a very bad recording of me saying it in a prayer here). De works just fine in polite conversation. I am a queer butch and prefer female pronouns and male titles (and I love that this board is set up to be non-binary friendly!)
I can be found here there and everywhere, though in very small quantities – I will have a full list of my various profiles and platforms here at my blog, which is itself shaping up to be a pretty eclectic collection of crap. My most common (secular) handle is redfootdaddy or butchcraft.
I graduated several years ago with a degree in Celtic Studies that came with a smattering of Scots Gaidhlig and Welsh, a hefty stable of academic resources, way too much knowledge about minutia of folk traditions in the British Isles, and a love of the disparate Celtic cultures. While my first religious experience was much, much earlier (around the time I was twelve), it has taken me years of studying Catholicism and various Neo-Pagan and polytheistic traditions to realise the path that I should be walking, and the gods who have been not-so-patiently waiting for me to wise up.
I am a Brythonic recon polytheist. What does that mean for me? It means I use the folklore and folk traditions of Wales and Southern Britain, along with historical accounts of the Celtic tribes of that area by outside observers before and during the Roman occupation, and a small amount of UPG to build a path that I walk every day. I use both Welsh and English in my practice, and I am a firm believer in at least a basic language acquisition as a part of faith building – but at the same time I recognize that Welsh and all the Celtic languages are still living languages and cultures that are not ceremonial props, and should be respected as such.
I primarily worship and venerate Camulos and the Great Lady Whose Name I Still Don’t Freaking Know Because Discernment Is Our Friend, or Arglwydd Fawr for short. I also venerate Gobannos, Artio, and Lug.
Other things I can talk endlessly about! I have some. I’m a needlecrafter – I knit, crochet, and cross-stitch as well as design patterns for all three. I really, really like tea. I have three cats and a redfoot tortoise and a wife. I’m a novelist (unpublished) and writer (published!).
I'm really very nice and friendly, but I also have borderline personality disorder with a healthy side order of anxiety and depression, so my responsiveness can be occasionally hit or miss – regardless, always always feel free to email or message me on any subject. You can do so by clicking on my name and sending a message from my profile, or emailing me at awenyddogamulos@outlook.com.
