Hello hello! Like all faeries I have many names, but I am mostly known in pagan/polytheist circles as Ciar Lionheart, or just Ciar. Those of you who know me by other names may also feel free to call me by any of those. I'm an Irish polytheist, though I also occasionally pull from other Gaelic traditions for the sake of additional information.
I'm queer and nonbinary and will variously describe myself as bisexual or pansexual depending on how I'm feeling at that particular time—I've identified actively as both at different points in my life and now largely use them as descriptors for my queerness. As for gender, I completely gave up on trying to define that and have taken to saying my gender is faery, which is a tidy way of encompassing both my nonbinary feelings and my non-human feelings. I'm also aromantic—gleefully so. I'm twenty-four years old and have lived in Canada all my life except for a brief interlude of one year spent living in Toulouse in the south of France. I am now located in Ottawa and falling more in love with it every day. I have a tendency to refer to my cities using the epithets "la Ville Rose" and "the Capital," respectively. I recently finished a BA in English.
I grew up in an agnostic household; my dad is a confirmed atheist, and my mom is an agnostic ex-Christian fundamentalist with some intermittent vaguely pagan/hippie-ish spiritual leanings. I've always believed in magic, but never really had a religion—I had a brief flirtation with atheism around when I was twelve, but it didn't take, and I was involved with a neowiccan-esque pagan Circle in my teens but was considerably more attached to the community than the practices and didn't describe myself as pagan at the time. I effectively carried on being agnostic until my third year of university, when I took an early Celtic literature course for the sake of novel research and accidentally acquired religion in the process.
I've been actively identifying as an Irish polytheist since October 2012 and really practicing (and active in the community on tumblr) since around fall 2013. I have particular relationships with the Mórrígan, Manannán mac Lir, Donn, Brigid, Nuada Airgetlám, and Ogma, as well as a longtime association with the Wild Hunt (that began sometime in late 2011, before religion caught up with it). I also practice a form of urban magic that borders on city worship, hence the aforementioned epithets. Initially I was primarily a death god worshipper but lately a lot of my direction has shifted towards Ogma, and I'm working on my bardic skillset with intent to eventually oath to him. Aside from that, I also do a bunch of small-scale magic things, and occasionally describe myself as a witch.
Outside of religion, I do a lot of reading and writing and I have more characters and stories dancing around my head than most people are capable of keeping track of. I'm working on a novel and also a lot of other things, and I'm hoping to get something published within a year or so. I also really love to cook, and I have a massive catalogue of faery recipes along with two medieval/Renaissance era cookbooks which I adore. I spend arguably way too much time on the internet, and also watch a lot of movies and TV with my roommates. My biggest fandoms are probably Team Fortress 2, Buckaroo Banzai, Pacific Rim, Teen Wolf, James Bond, and the Clash (yes, the band). I also play Flight Rising and Fallen London, and collect Monster High dolls. I'm sort of an embarrassment and one hundred percent okay with that.
I also talk too much. You may have noticed.
Other places you can find me include lebornaciar on tumblr, as well as my personal blog. My main claim to fame in pagan tumblr is the gods for the modern age series, which is my baby and my pet project and I love it a lot.
